Abstract This study examines approaches to architectural form generation in the post-digital era by comparing diagram-based form-making with digital and algorithmic form-generation. Through a review of diagram theory and self-referentiality, the research identifies abstraction, rule-making, and internal justification as core attributes of diagram-based design, and contrasts them with digital approaches analyzed through data processing, rule structures, and materialization. Case studies including Hansmeyer, Menges, Gramazio & Kohler, Oxman, Fornes, and ZHA demonstrate how algorithmic, material-fabrication, and hybrid experimental approaches redefine architectural production. The study concludes that these approaches hold significance as new approaches to architectural form generation in the post-digital era.
