| Abstract |
The main purpose of this research is to explore directions for the restoration and conservation of palace architectural heritage by analyzing
the transformation process and original form of Seogeodang in Deoksugung, alongside an examination of conservation principles and the
concept of original form. Palaces were composed of the finest architectural works of their time, sharing a common historical context while
undergoing distinct processes of transformation, through which each building accumulated different historical traces. Deoksugung, in particular,
preserves a palace precinct that reflects multiple temporal layers. However, a review of international conservation principles and discussions
on the concept of original form suggests that restoration should not be confined to a single historical period, but should instead respect the
existing condition of all historical traces embodied in architectural heritage. This study analyzes the original form and transformation processes
of Seogeodang in Deoksugung and discusses appropriate directions for the restoration and conservation of palace architecture through an
examination of current restoration practices and conservation principles. |
