| Abstract |
This study is aim to examine the impact of housing instability on individuals' perceived health status and depression. For this purpose, panel
data were constructed, comprising 41,360 observations using data from the 10th (2015) to 19th (2024) waves of the Korea Welfare Panel
Survey (KoWePS), with eight independent variables and five control variables selected. The analysis method employed panel binary logistic
regression using SPSS 29.0 and Stata 17.0. The results are as follows. Firstly, perceived health status was negatively related with mortgage
or rent arrears, housing cost burden, rooftop or (semi-)basement and age, while it was positively related with size of housing, residential satis
factionand employment status(either on a permanent or non permanent basis rather than non employee). Secondly, depression was negatively
related with tenure type(ownership), residential satisfaction and employment status(neither on a permanent nor non permanent basis rather than
non employee), while it was positively related with mortgage or rent arrears, housing informality, gender(female) and age. These results
indicate that the need for suitable housing policies aimed at alleviating housing instability and serving stable and comfortable housing
environments to promote individuals’ health. Based on the results, this study is expected to provide a foundational reference for developing
integrated policies that link housing and health-welfare programs to enhance community health and well-being. |
