| Abstract |
This study examines the applicability of urban acupuncture theory as a strategic framework for urban regeneration through an analysis of the
22@ Barcelona innovation district as a representative case. Moving beyond the limitations of conventional large-scale master planning, urban
acupuncture emphasizes micro-scale, low-cost, and high-impact interventions that respond to local spatial and social contexts. A multi-scalar
analytical framework based on point?line?surface spatial interactions is used to investigate how the district integrates top-down innovation
strategies with bottom-up spatial interventions. The findings show that such multi-level interventions restructure public space networks,
reactivate everyday urban corridors, and generate symbolic activity nodes. These processes contribute to improved spatial quality, stronger
community resilience, and a reinforced local identity. Overall, the study proposes a multi-scalar analytical framework that reinterprets urban
acupuncture as a structural urban regeneration mechanism and offers practical insights for adaptive and people-centered urban transformation
policies. |
