| Abstract |
This study analyzes the potential for improving the thermal performance of the wall?floor joint of PC curtain walls in Rahmen-type
apartment buildings through the minimization of concrete corbels. Infrared thermography was conducted on an actual PC apartment building
to identify heat loss at the wall?floor joint. Subsequently, three-dimensional steady-state heat transfer analysis was performed using Physibel
TRISCO, and thermal performance was evaluated using the effective U-value and temperature difference ratio (TDR). The infrared
thermography results showed that the wall?floor joint exhibited higher surface temperatures than the surrounding exterior wall areas,
confirming it as a major thermal bridge location. In addition, heat transfer analysis indicated that the effective U-value of the reference model
(C_1600) was 0.267 W/m²?K. Reducing the corbel length to 300 mm improved thermal performance by approximately 10.1%. Applying
UHPC improved performance by 15.4%, while replacing the corbel with H-shaped steel achieved the best performance with a 19.5%
reduction. Overall, minimizing the corbel is considered an effective design strategy for reducing thermal bridges at the wall?floor joint of PC
curtain walls in Rahmen-type apartment buildings. In particular, the reduced-corbel-length alternative is evaluated as a practical solution
considering constructability and economic feasibility. |
