| Abstract |
This study examines the housing conditions of elderly residents in public rental housing and explores policy directions to support aging in
place in Korea. Using raw data from a national survey of long-term public rental housing, it analyzes 2,211 households that included at least
one resident aged 65 or older. The study compares differences by age group, region, and housing type in terms of residential satisfaction,
safety accident experience, intention to move, and welfare service needs. The findings show that late-old residents reported higher residential
satisfaction and lower intention to move, but greater dependence on welfare facilities and services. Safety accidents were more common
among late-old residents, permanent rental housing tenants, and residents in non-metropolitan areas. In particular, late-old residents in
permanent rental housing outside metropolitan areas were identified as a highly vulnerable group. The study suggests that future housing
policy should go beyond physical improvements alone and adopt an integrated approach that combines age-friendly housing modifications,
welfare service linkages, and improved community accessibility to better support aging in place. |
