Abstract This study analyzes the constructional characteristics of eight government reinforced concrete buildings erected in 1910s Gyeongseong and examines their significance in the history of building technology. The buildings are classified into three types: Hennebique-based, Kahn system, and standard transition, showing that patent validity played a decisive role in the adoption of each system. In addition, a rationalization process progressing from full to selective structural application ultimately led to a shift toward the standard type and enabled greater freedom in architectural expression. This study helps fill a gap in the history of modern Korean architectural technology through empirical analysis.
