Abstract This study compares surface temperature distributions between the 1914 original envelope and the 1957 addition envelope of Sullivan’s Purdue State Bank. Infrared thermography, region of interest analysis, and nonparametric statistical tests were used to examine walls, frames, glass, and junctions under two outdoor conditions in February 2026: -1 °C with a wind speed of 3 m/s and 11 °C with a wind speed of 6 m/s. Surface temperature (Ts), the difference between surface and outdoor air temperatures (ΔT = Ts - To), and the coefficient of variation (CV) were analyzed as indicators of surface temperature performance. Measurements obtained under different outdoor conditions showed significant differences in Ts and ΔT, p = 0.012, whereas CV did not differ significantly, p = 0.069. In contrast, no significant differences were found between the original and addition envelopes for Ts, ΔT, or CV, p > 0.05. The wall-frame junction exhibited the highest CV under the lower-temperature condition, indicating greater localized surface temperature variability. These findings provide preliminary empirical evidence for interpreting localized surface temperature variations and envelope performance in historic buildings with additions. The results also highlight the need for repeated measurements under controlled environmental conditions to improve the reliability of thermal performance assessments.
