| Abstract |
This study examines the decision-making process for assessing the value of post-fire wooden architectural heritage. The repair and recovery
process following the 2008 Sungnyemun fire was analyzed through the minutes of the Cultural Heritage Committee and the Sungnyemun
Restoration Advisory Group, the pre-fire survey report, and news interviews to support the development of systematic recovery and restoration
standards. The findings provide a foundation for establishing value recovery principles and a decision-making framework tailored to the
characteristics of Korean wooden architectural heritage. Based on these findings, an initial multifaceted value assessment process is proposed,
consisting of the diagnosis of sense of place and context, the evaluation of intangible and socio-cultural values, and the review of physical
materials and minimal intervention. This framework is expected to contribute to a practical conservation standard that reduces uncertainty
during the early stages of post-disaster decision-making while integrating material authenticity with intangible value. |
