| Abstract |
The wooden storage structure excavated during the 2020~2021 archaeological investigation of the southwestern interior of Iseong-sanseong
Fortress in Okcheon was constructed by the Silla Kingdom in the late fifth to early sixth century CE to store goods and materials. This
study reconstructs the architectural characteristics of Silla wooden architecture by classifying excavated wooden members according to their
original structural positions and examining key architectural elements, including the Yeongjo-cheok, the traditional construction measuring
scale, plan layout, timber structural system, and joinery techniques. During the excavation, the buried wooden members were recovered
stratigraphically from the uppermost to lowermost layers and classified based on their recorded positions, orientations, morphological
characteristics, and associated construction traces. The morphology of each member type, together with the construction marks preserved on
its surface, was then analyzed to identify the original Yeongjo-cheok, construction methods, and architectural configuration of the storage
structure. These findings provide new archaeological evidence for understanding the construction techniques and architectural characteristics of
late fifth- to early sixth-century Silla wooden architecture. |
