| Abstract |
This study evaluates the axial compressive performance and buckling behavior of full-scale glued laminated timber columns made from
domestic Korean larch. Compression tests were conducted under displacement control on ten full-scale specimens with slenderness ratios
ranging from 4.33 to 41.08 while maintaining a constant cross-sectional aspect ratio of 1.5. The results showed a clear nonlinear decrease of
approximately 96.3 percent in ultimate load capacity as the slenderness ratio increased. Failure modes progressed from material crushing to
inelastic buckling with laminate delamination and finally to pure elastic buckling. Although the current Korean Design Standards criteria
provide adequate structural safety, the findings support transitioning the Korean timber design framework to a limit state design approach in
line with international standards while maintaining structural reliability and safety. |
