The Wages of Architectural Builders in the Second Half of the Chosun Dynasty |
| Abstract |
Since the 17th century, the wages of architectural builders in building the official buildings was paid monthly without difference between various builders. The wages of builders was lower that of employed simple workers. From the end of the 18th century, the method of paying wages was changed. It was paid daily and there appeared differences between the wages of builders. The wages of carpenter became the highest one and it became twice of that of simple workers.Considering these changes, it could be concluded that the work condition of architectural builders changed from the forced labor to the waged labor from the end of the 18th century. |
