Abstract The stiffness matrix of a plate element with rectangular cutouts is formed by the numerical integration in which the region cutout in the element is excluded during the integration process. The behavior of newly developed element is very good, comparing with the results from other well established finite element method. This element can be used effectively and economically in the analysis of the perforated shear walls of tall buildings.
