A Study on the Vernacular Dwellings in Sma-chok Area |
| Abstract |
The distribution of vernacular dwellings in Korea has been insisted by several scholars, but there is a few study to clear the extent of them. Therefore, it is believed that the study of small area which seems to have a certain locality is valuable.This article tries to find out the architectural characteristics of the vernacular dwellings in Sam-chok area. The results from analysis focused on plan is as follows:1)The dwellings in this area have concentrating(inner-directed) concept & primitive elements, and they have been preserved by the unique conservative disposition of this place.2)The jeon-shaped dwellings seems to have been developed from North region, and can be classified into mountain-type and coast-type.3)The dulgery dwellings seems to have been developed from Andong area, and it is different from the coast-type of the jeon.Accordingly, it can be suggested that the architectural culture of this area shows various types based on its geographical conditions. |
