Abstract |
There is an increasing demand for an instrument to measure human responses to their living environment. The purpose of the study was to develop an instrument to measure children's responses to their room environment and to identify factor structure of developed descriptors. Subjects were 560 students ranged from 6th grade of elementary school to 3th grade of middle school. Finally an instrument with 28 representative descriptors was developed.Three major factor dimensions were identified: supporting activities and orderliness of space; attractiveness of visual design; spaciousness, that is, visual and psychological openness. And there is a difference in children's responses to their room environment according to their sex and age. These 28 representative descriptors can be used to measure children's responses to their room environment. Environmental designers need to consider users' responses with their characteristics such as sex and age when creating interior environment. |
