A Study on the Architectural Form of the Hyang-Gyo in Chosun Dynasty |
Abstract |
This study is the second part of the previous research article, "A Study on the architectural form of the Hyang-Gyo in Chosun Dynasty(I)". The Hyang-Gyo was the unique secondary school system of Cho-sun Dynasty that was established to educate the youth of the local people and to enlighten the country people.This study aims at finding the structure and decorative design of Hyang-Gyo architecture. The subject of the study is limited in scope only to Hyang-Gyo architecture in Ho-Nam Province.As the result of the study, it is concluded that Daesungjun, the main part of Hyang-Gyo, has the characteristics mainly of the Joosimpo and Ikkong styles, and also infrequently of the Dapo style(Iksan Hyang-Gyo), while Myungleundang, a kind of classroom in Chosun Dynasty, has the characteristics mainly of the Ikkong and Mindori styles, and the rest of the Hyang-Gyo Building is in the Mindori style. |
