A Study on the Elasto-plastic Behavior of Tubular Braced Frames |
Abstract |
This paper is the experimental study on the elasto-plastic behavior of tubular X-braced frames subjected to the monotonic inelastic loading.Generally, the design of braced frame is heavily dependent upon the ability of structure to absolve and dissipate energy in addition to the strength requirements.Braced frames are very effective in controlling lateral deflections because of the high lateral stiffness provided by the braces. But many bracing systems do not exhibit ideal energy dissipation characteristics because of the deterioration of brace capacity(buckling, post-buckling, kink, local buckling, tearing and so on)In order to predict and assess inelastic behavior of braced frames, experimental tests must be carried out in advance. In this paper, basic considerations and experimental model are identified and a number of experimental test (quasi-static test) are carried by employing slenderness-ratio of the braces as the principal parameter. |
