A Study on the Elasto-plastic Behavior of Tubular Braced Frames |
Abstract |
This paper is an experimental study on the restoring force characteristics of tubular X-braced frames subjected to the cyclic inelastic loading. The cyclic inelastic responses of the frame models subjected to cyclic lateral forces are predominantly dependent on the behavior of the braces. Energy dissipation is an important response parameter of the frame models during cyclic loading. The energies in a given cycle depend on the brace axial displacement within that cycle, the residual displacement retaining after unloading in the previous cycle and shape of the hysteretic loops.Based on experimental results obtained with five carefully prepared X-braced tubular frame specimens and one unbraced frame specimen, a number of observations on overall frame behavior were made. |
