Abstract The vernacular houses in Yong-Dong region, the middle east of Korea, have been developed by the unique climatic and geographic influences, and it has been known to us that they belong to the northern type of Korea, but according to related reports, there are something yet to be known.This paper was made to compare the house type of northern with southern parts of Yong-Dong region. The typical plan of vernacular houses in both parts shows very similar but different arrangement of rooms.Some findings in this paper are as follows.The house type of double rows which are partitioned by walls in northern part of Yong-Dong region is similar to northern type of Korea.The basic pattern of the floor plan shows two KAN from the side and three KAN from the front. And also the stable is located at the corner of " ㄱ"type of floor plan.
