A Study on the Strength Characteristics of Concrete |
Abstract |
This paper is studied to find the strength characteristics of concrete due to the correlative effect of W/C ratio, aggregate size and mortar ratio. Rusults are as follows:(1) According to the 2-d.o.f regressive analysis, compressive strength of concrete is inversly proportion to higher W/C ratio. This tendency can be explained with the help of effective W/C theory, hydrated cement theory and gel/space theory of concrete. (2) Compressive strength of concrete is lowered according to larger aggregate size. This tendency could be analyzed with various effects of boundary conditions between aggregate surface and matrix. (3) Mixed aggregate size has a average strength tendency like that of same aggregate size.(4) Mortar strength is higher than that of concrete, but in any critical size of aggregate, concrete str ength is converged to mortar strength.(5) Above W/C ratio obout 65%, there is a decreasing strength tendency according to higher mortar ratio, but W/C ratio about 65%, a increasing strength tendency according to higher mortar ratio. |
