Title |
A study on the Treatment and Care Facilities for the Aged in Western Countries |
Abstract |
The development of facilities for the elderly who are ill has by no means proceeded according to one more or less general pattern. Many differences exist between the countries under review and differences can often be noted within one country alone. In all the countries under review there are still gaps in the provision of accommodations and services for the elderly ill. The number of publications with planning and design data for these facilities is small compared with the available publications on communal homes.Yet a discussion of design and planning ideas in practice or as recommended in different countries may be useful. While major differences eixst concerning the kind of institutions where treatment and care are administered and the division of work between various types of institutions, the illnesses old people suffer from and the kinds of treatment and care they need seem to be pretty much the same in all Western Countries. |
