Abstract The fundamental objective of noise control is to provide an acceptable acoustical environment indoors and outdoors so that the industry and character of all sounds within or aroung a residential area will be compatible with the intended use of the residential space. The solid-borne sound is one of the most important part in building acoustics. Nevertheless, there is not yet sufficient knowledge to predict its behavior in preparing the acoustical design of a building. This paper is a study on the propagation characteristics of solid-borne sound in apartment building. The purpose of this study is to present the data needed for comfortable building environment. solidborne sound in apartment building was measured at the source of sound and at many receiving locations in building. Distribution of the sound level was analyzied to understand noise levels, at different locations. Graphic method as well as correlation analysis techniques were employed. For this experiment, we made use of the tire according to the standard rules of JIS as a noise generator, and the measurement was carried out after the building had been all completed.
