| Abstract |
This is the study on the safety of staircase handrail in the Low-Rise apartment houses, constructed by Korean Housing Corportaion, city office, and private enterprise from the middle of 1970s to the beginning of 1980s of Kang-Dong District of Seoul.The purpose of this paper is to suggest the fundamental guideline and the basic data for the safety design of staircase handrail by surverying the dimensions and investicating the actual conditions of apartment houses.The results of the study are summarized as follows.1. The handrail height which has nearly 100% safety factor applied to the human dimenisions of Korean people is 97.4cm for adults and 67.4cm for children.2. The diameter of copping handrail is 2.8cm for the grown up and 2.2cm for children, and the size of openings between handrail supports is 8.8cm for young children.3. Above all, the safety of handrail height in the investication items of staircase handrail is good, but the other items are poor conditions. |
