Abstract For the assessment of continuous noise, the equivalent continuous A-weighted sound pressure level L has become popular and is being used world-wide. But, for the assessment of impulsive noises, on the other hand,a standard method has not yet been established and various measuring methods are proposed.We have been studying physical measurement methods and subjective assessment of impulsive sounds in order to find a practical method for assessing impulsive sounds from the viewpoint of noise assessment.In this paper, we examined the loudness of isolated exponentially decaying impulsive sounds with total quantities of emitted energy components, methods of its description, and measuring examples and experiment are studied.
