Graph-Theoretic Representation of the Socio-Spatial Field of Communication |
Abstract |
In order to effectively explain the socio-spatial phenomenon of a community, it is a prerequisite to transform the socio-spatial field of communication in question into analysable objects. Through the medium of these analysable objects, we can deduce the meaning system of non-physical dimension ingrained in the spatial organisation of the community. For this we need to replace the most general nature of the relations of the individual regions of space into mathematical objects;here the former is the topological relation and the latter the linear graph. If we intend further to take the structural nature of the socio-spatial phenomenon into consideration, that is the interaction of the opposite but complementary poles, in the process of the graph-theoretic representation, the application of Tutte's graph theory is most effective. The graph thus produced would be a powerful means through the analysis of which the socio-spatial phenomenon can be interpreted as the result of the interaction between complementary categories chosen. |
