Superimposed Planes and their Stratification |
Abstract |
The objective of this research is to analyze the perceptual form which changes with the movement of the observer in architectural space. Architectural perceptual form is observed as superimposed planes, perspective relationships of form and sequential perception of forms according to El Lissitzky. Some planes which are basic elements in architectural form appear in the form of front and back ("Hintereinander"), superimposition and their stratification. Spatial depth in architecture is perceived by overlapped planes and is determined by the relation of their outlines and corners. The relationship between the outlines of overlapped planes and spatial depth, and the sequential description of perceived form are reinterpreted as the synthesis of Mario Gandelsonas' three concepts of layering, that is, perspective, dialectic and relational layerings. |
