Abstract The design of modern tall buildings involves certain problems resulting from strong wind gusts, e.g.,safety, human comfort and serviceability. Many researchers have tried to achieve a better controlled building responese by using various passive or active control devices. Through extensive research in this field, active control system which uses auxiliary control force turns out to be a very efficient way to limint vibrations of buildings with in an allowable range. Consequently energy requirement attendant upon control force becomes one of the most important subjects in putting active control into practice. In this paper optimal control law with respect to energy requirement and allowable responeses will be studied, taking a tall building subjected to stochastic wind load as an example.
