A Study on the Characteristics & Direction for Preservation of Buildings in the District of Korean Traditional Houses in Seoul |
Abstract |
The object of this thesis is to analyse the variations of elevation of Korean traditional houses in the district of Korean traditional house in Seoul and to propose desirable directions for furture extension, repairment and new construction.According to dwelling, the variations of Korean traditional house should fit in context of the district and should be approached in view of modernization of traditional architecture.The variations of elevation are analysed according to design elements and its causes are analysed as societal, economic, commercial and city planning.The desirable directions for its preservation are suggested such as: first, the variation of roof and exterior wall facing roads should be restored to the original condition and the other variations should be kept as the existing condition, second, repairing the part facing roads, traditional materials should be used and the pattern of windows and door should be kept, third, in case of changes of uses the most important design elements should be conserved.In conclusion, to preserve outer shape, the roof and wall facing road hould be restored to the original condition and the other parts should be kept as the existing condition. |
