The Site Design of the Upper-Class Houses of the Choson Dynasty Based on the Theory of Yangtaeg Samyo |
| Abstract |
Among the numerous Yangban(upper educated class) houses of Choson Dynasty, there si no one house that share the same design of site layout. Thus, the site design of the Yangban houses are extremely varied, however, the determinants or design principles of site design was not yet clearly indentified.As one way to investigate such design principle, this study aims to identity the way and range of application of the rules of traditional Pung Soo(풍수) known as Yangtaeg Samyo(양택삼요): three determining factors of residential architecture according to the following process;1. The identification of the particular way the Three Factor(삼요) Method was applied which is Known as Kanbup(간법)2. Examination of actual samples of houses to know the degree of application of the Kanbup(간법) The research revealed that the theory of Yang-taeg Samyo was actually applied so that the house can be laid out in auspicious way. |
