A Study on the Improvement of Educational Facilities of Primary and Middle Schools Via Standard Space Programme |
| Abstract |
The planning and design of school buildings in Korea have been carried out by means of the "standard school building design drawings" of the Ministry of Education. This has rendered the realization of creative educational process difficult due to the monotonous and fantasyless ground plan of school buildings. The recent Korean Education Reform plan looks forward to seeing the elementary and middle level education to be more creative, student-centered and flexible. The new school buildings, which should consequently have physically matching environment, should make new educational methods and processes like group discussions, scientific observation, experiments, team teaching and open plan education possible.The study provides the still urgently needed guidellines for planning and designing of new schools by means of "standard space programme" instead of "the standard design drawings", the shortcomings of which have sufficiently been manifested in the current school buildings. |
