| Abstract |
San Francisco is often considered to be one of the most attractive cities in the U.S. Its scenic beauty is world famous.When pressure for development threatened to change the character of the city, San Francisco adopted Urban Design Plan, the first of its kind among the U.S.cities.The city has successfully preserved its urban character and directed the development in a way that is compatible with the city. Other cities which are being threatened to lose its urban character by new development can learn from the experience of San Francisco.The purpose of this paper is to review urban design policy of San Francisco and understand its principles and objectives for reference for possible shaping of urban design policy of Korean cities. |
