Abstract Following the oil crisis in 1979, there have been surge of movements by the government in Korea to conserve petroleum based energy in every sector of society. One of these movements was the application of passive solar technologies into the buildings. So this paper, "A Study on the Application of Passive Solar Systems for Post office Buildings" aims at the development and application of passive solar systems that will substantially reduce the enormous consumption of petroleum-based energy for space heating. This passive solar post office adopts two types of passive solar systems-;direct gain system for business space and sun space system for residential accomodations. In this case thermal performance analysis results show energy savings fraction of almost 57%. Solar contribution grows as the ambient temperature gets lower and more solar radiation is available. Finally, standard drawings are prepared in detail to promote the application of this passive solar technology in practical post office.
