Title |
A Study on Le Corbusier`s Urbanism:Ideology and Habitation |
Abstract |
Le Corbusier devoted himself to study of housing from early Domino plan to Chandigarh project although only several schemes were realized in the built structures. In his housing projects, two main ideas were dominant; the one was his revolutionary idea of society, his vision of the future cities and habitation, and the other was that of mass-production of works. As many early Modern architects were involved in the political movements, Le Corbusier had a socialist vision for a new architecture. He was an avid follower of the intellectual movement sometimes called neo-Saint-Simonianism. The concentration of essential qualities in the standard types presupposed methods of unprecedented industrial potentiality. To Le Corbusier mass-production of housing was a concept for an ideal community, part of an ideal city.Throughout his creative activities in `a search' for contemporary expression in architecture, he never failed to show new directions in the social, physical environments. As new image of society was to be envisioned under tremendous changes in the social structure and values, new framework for urban life was manifested in Le Corbusier's utopian schemes. |
