Abstract The good acoustic environment of the small size lecture theater could be easily accomplished by simply following the general design guidelines, because the lecture theater's form and size are standardized and the lecturer and student's positions are fixed. In this study, the factors which affect the acoustic environment of the lecture theater are investigated, and the background noise level, sound pressure level, reverberation time and ray diagram of the selected lecture theater are measured and analyzed. The results show that 18 of the floor slope can provide excellent sight line, and the sound pressure level distribution and the reverberation time of the lecture theater are affected by its irregular form and the big object in it. The measurement of the reverberation time reveals that more absorption for the low frequency sound is required.
