Title |
A Study on the Rationalization of architectural Massing method through the use of the Net to Gross Area Ratio |
Abstract |
The concept of Net to Gross area ratio is a tool for the systematic approach in architectural massing. Knowing the ultimate size of a building before design is completed is of great use for architects to convert their design thinking from traditional way of cummulation to a systematic and organizational design approach. Groundwork issues for the development of a method of design out of this concept of Net to Gross area ratio are discussed in this paper, such as : definition of the basic concept, establishment of legal guideline for area measurement, elaboration of usages and merits of the method, and methodological development of the concept. This effort of rationalizing and externalizing architect's way of design thinking has two-fold purpose : enhancing the performance of design practice, and to develop a descriptive model for education, theory, and communication in design. |
