A Study on the Utilization of Bathroom Space |
Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to study the bathing habits and patterns of Korean urban apartment dwellers and to examine the extent of the use of their Western style bathroom facilities.The Survey data gathered for this research came from personal interviews conducted during the month of June, 1988, with 134 Urban households in Seoul and Pusan whose apartment size ranged from 83m2 to 195m2Our major findings are as follows;1)our data reveal that there are eight different patterns of bathing habits. However, the following four patterns are found frequently: (a)After soaking their body in the bathtub, showering and washing are done out of the bathtub(32.6%), (b)After soaking their body in the bathtub, showering and washing are done in the bathtub (13.2%), (c)Does not soak their body in the bathtub, showering and washing are done out of the bathtub(28.2%)(d)Does not soak their body in the bathtub, showering and washing are done in the bathtub(21.0%).2)Approximately, 60% of our respondents regularly utilize the public-bath facilities although they have their own private-bath facility at home because they do not feel that their home facilities would provide any kind of relaxation.3)Approximately, 50% of our respondents are not satisfied with the way their bathrooms are designed and feel that a seperate space should be maintained for different fac- lities of bathtub and toilet. |
