An Experimental Study on Lateral Buckling of H-Steel Beam with Continuously Restrained Upper Flange |
Abstract |
Lateral bucking strength of beams can be considerably enhanced by various restrains met in practice. The present design formulas, however do not cover a large variety of restraining conditions and loading conditions. In general, the beams in rigid frames have two types of restrains in the span, one is continuous restrains such as concrete slab and closely spaced steel purilns, the other is discreted intermediate retrains such as subbeams and brace. When the upper flange is completely restrained by the reinforced concrete slab, the bucking stress is considerably increased. This paper investigated the effect of concrete slab restrains on the lateral bucking strength of composite beams and proposed design data of H-beam with continuously restrained upper flange. |
