A Study on the Formation of the Academia Royal d`Architecture in 18th C.France |
Abstract |
The Purpose of this study was to look into the significance of the archite ctual education-Academie Royal d'architecture, related to the Ecole des beaux-arts-in the 18th C.France. Particular emphasis was placed upon the political, social and architectural relationships with the evolution of the Academy. The Academy founded in 1671 by J.B.Colbert, minister during the 'Grand Siecle', with a political purpose to show glorious king's power. The Grand prix de Rome and annual competition administered by the Academy, culminated the academism based on the classicism. The winner, sent to Academie de France in Rome with Royal pension, was to study to ideas of ancients and Roman architecture.The study found that the Academy, the first architectural school in the history, was in strong influence of political power. This brought the social statues of the architects having special powers in the academy. The change of architects statues and the education by this architects had major role that caused Neo-classical movements in the late 18th C.Franch architecture. |
