Abstract Building evaluation is needed in order to improve the quality of environment for our future life. It is needed to evaluate the complex context which combine the built environment and the users and to justify the objective standards. In this paper, the structure of evaluation process and the evaluation components such as human behavior, building performance, setting, and aesthetic value is analyzed. The hierarchy of the theories of the components is studied. The advantage of using the hierarchy in building evaluation is systematic and easy to generalize. But building evaluation should be done in the context of environment-behavior relation and the objective measurement of individual differences should be done to improve the validity of research results.
