Abstract The buckling strength of the light weight H-shaped steel columms is investigated experimentally and analytically. Experiments consist of tension test, stub column test and long column test. Long column test results are compared with theoretical predictions based on the beam-columm concept. And the test results are discussed to apply to the current design code. Finally, recommendations are presented for the design of this type of column is association with the SSRC column curves and the ECCS column curves.
