Abstract The purpose of this study is to show by common cultural point of view the symbolic meaning with an ancestral shrines pattern, an ancestral feast space within a dwelling construction by Confucian infulence, and to explicate the space placeness of an anstral shrine through the Cho-Son dynasty's particular family notion. The conclusion of this study is as follows.First, Though the orientation of an ancestral shrine is in accord with one's original residence in a house facing south and east-south, the locative orientation from one's original residence is the order of a house facing east-south, east, north, and north-west. The important selection of a direction is dependent on one's original residence.Second, The partition number of this space is one partition in principle, and the door existence in using method this space gives us the locative meaning of life from death.Third, The symbolic function of this ancestral shrine is to integrate kinsfolk, and to include the fourth generation in family behavior environmental domain.
