Abstract Chyme is a type of acroterion in the shapes of a bird's tail : placed at each end of roof ridge in traditional Korean, Chinese and Japanese Architecture. The limited interpretation of Chyme is ascribed to its fragmental study. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is divided into two aspects. One aims to investigate the origin and transition of it, the others to approach to examine in Oriental Architecture.In this view, the study are referred as follows: Chyme was introduced as authoritative symbol and was products which were based on Shamanism for protection against fire and evils. In ancient times, Chyme was a shape of bird's tail, but as time passed,it gradually appeared a bird's mouth or a shape of dragon. Especially, the approach to a comparative study in Oriental Architecture shows that Chuydoo is not a special type of Chyme but a pattern of Chymoon in Korea.
