A study on the acceptance and changing process of the modern commercial architecture in Taegu area |
Abstract |
This study is to find out the background and characteristic on the accepting of the modern commercial architecture, and the changing process of it in Taegu area through a series of actual survey and type-analysis of the existing buildings. Taegu had been governed as a commercial city in the Japan-colonial age, because Taegu had fitted for the commercial region in the aspect of geography and social economic, By that reason, the most of commercial buildings in Taegu area had been accepted from Japan. The history of development of modern commercial buildings in Taegu area can be devided into three periods in accordance with the economic policy, building types and the method of construction.The first period(1893~1910) was characterlized mostly by bank buildings. The characteristic of that period was that the type of bank buildings began to take a authoritative from but the other store buildings took Japanese style.The characteristic of the second period(1911~1926)was that the bank buildings were made with brick structure and imperial style and the other store buildings were made with wood structure Japanese style.During the third period(1927~1945), new method of construction using reinforced concrete and mortar finish with flat roof was introduced and the design of the buildings became much simpler. |
