Introductory Study for looking into the Characteristics of Urban Design |
| Abstract |
This study is aimed to look into the characteristics of urban design itself, and to highlight how informed opinion can influence the performance and activities of professionals in the view of the progress in conceptualization. This is the second one in a series of papers on same subject as above. Previous paper dealt with a prospect and rumination of the progress in conceptualization of urban design. And the followings would be the analytical thinking about post-graduate degree programs in urban design and their curricula at universities in Britain and the United States and some case studies about the nature, scope, and implementation skills on urban design.There is a widely held view that the concept of urban design over the last three decades have failed to produce a satisfactory concord for improving urban environment. The institutes and educators have emphasized their own intentions rather than general perceptions, and also examined their personal practical interests.We, therefore, must get to an agreement that the `urban design' has to be a multidisciplinary part of the fiels and professions for the reconstruction of the qualities of urban environment. |
