Title |
A Basic Study on the User Needs of Urban Neighborhood Parks |
Abstract |
This study identified how the several factors of residents-accessibility, population density, age, income level, educaiton level and size of house-influenced their needs for the use of urban parks, and developed the predictive model for the estimation of the needs through the case study, on the basis of the concepts that the planning and policy for urban open space systems should be also established by the analysis and evaluation of user needs for the urban parks, and that the user needs would be influenced by their socio-economic and environmental factors.Although the user needs for urban parks would be also influenced by the qua litative factors such as satisfaction, preference, behavior, perception and so on, this study restricted to the quantitative measurements-the use frequencies of park-obtained from the enquete survey on the park and surrounding residential areas in Daejeon City. It developed a predictive model for the latent needs of park users by estimating the total needs and the expressed needs on the basis of the assumption:(latent needs)=(total needs)-(expressed needs)The findings produced in the study are as follows.1. As the distance to the park increases, both the expressed needs and the total needs decrease.2. As the age increases, both the expressed needs and the total needs increases.3. As the population density of residential areas increases, the expressed needs decreases but the total needs increases.4. As the education level increase, the expressed needs increases but the total needs decrease. |
