Abstract This study is aimed to present a fundamental data for therfmal comfort and health in Ondol heating systems by evaluating indoor thermal environment. The housing subjected was categorized into detached single family houses and apartments, reinforced concrete and brick structures, intermittent and continuous heating systems. The measurment of environmental elements was consisted of indoor temperature, relative humidity and globe temperature. Through observing and analyzing, thermal resistance of winter clothing in the room was calculated, and daily activity patterns were classified. ASHRAE's Psychophysical Voting Scale was applied to estimate the resident's thermal comfort response. As the result of the evaluation, in winter clothing in the room(0.8~1.2 clo.), the comfortable indoor temperature range indicated was 13.0~24.8 C, And in Ondol heating system, the R.C. houses have ratained more stable and comfortable thermal environment. And also, the thermal characteristics of each heating system were more stable distribution in apartments of R.C. structure.
