Abstract An approximate and method for spectum-compatible nonstationary ground motion is proposed in this paper based on equivalent stationary analysis. The approximate relationship between design spectrum and power spectrum of compatible ground motion is obtained in explicit form.The proposed method is applied to estimate power spectrum of nonstationary ground motion which is compatible to seismic design spectrum of Korea,thereby enlightening some stochastic properties implied on seismic design spectrum.The appropriateness of the method is evaluated by numerical simulation. The sample time histories needed for simulation study are generated on an afficient way using FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) technique.
