Title |
A Study on the Physical Parameters of Assessing the Spatial Speech Transmission Quality Under Variable Noise Conditions |
Abstract |
Variable background noise has a large effect on the listening condition of a room. This study deals with some physical parameters for assessing the listening conditions of a room, such as articulation index (AI), rapid speech transmission index(RASTI) and statistical noise levels(Ln, Leq), in variable background noises. Special attention was payed to the correlation between the parameters and the articulation score which was proved to be a valid indicator for speech transmission quality of a room. According to the experiments and tests performed in 29 different classrooms with variable background noises, all of the three parameters have high correlations with articulation score. Among these parameters, L10 and l50 have high correlation coefficients. This means that the noise of higher levels are the most important factor for the speech recognition in the variable noise conditions. |
