Abstract Membrane Structure derive their stiffness from their geometry and their initial prestress and have a peculiar feature that extremely anisotropic materials are joined together.In this paper, treating geometry boundary condition, initial prestress and direction of membrane texture as basic design parameters, a practical method of shape-finding that satisfy all structural, architectural and constructional design requirements is presented.Moreover, to decrease the error in membrane element in large deformation analysis and save the computer running time, the membrane is idealized as cable using a technique with a small young's modulus.
