Title |
A Study on Traditional Dwelling Space in Andong Region |
Abstract |
Of those village that will disappear with the completion of Imha Dam, nine villages were selected as the object of this study. The purpose of this study is to record phenomena related to dwelling space and to decipher the traditional principles of design. The findings may be summarised as follows:(1) Among the patterns of layout L-shaped anchae/pusokchae type widely prevails in most villages except in Sugok-dong and Jire-dong. Orientation, axis and territoriality are major elements of layout design.(2) In the floor plan, the linear 4-kan type prevails throughout the villages. In relationship to adjacency between rooms the coefficients of R2,R3 and R4 found in the lower class dwellings are by far higher than those of R10 and R11 found in the upper class dwellings. In size, puoek, anbang and daechung prevail. Accordingly, anbang, daechung and puoek are treated as basic and major elements in the organization of traditional dwelling space, the changes due to the passage of time may be classified into four categories: functional alteration.extension, disappearance, opening up between rooms.(3) With regard to the exterior form consisting of roof, eaves, walls, windows and doors and platform, the structural elements remain traditional while finishing materials have changed. |
